Founded in Milan in 1978 by the audacious Gianni Versace, the label is famed for its bold, flamboyant fashions. Versace has been heralded as the architect of modern fashion’s place in popular culture and his devotees include Elton John and Elizabeth Hurley. After his death in 1997, his sister and muse Donatella became creative director, and now acts as guardian of the spirit of the brand, which now produces glamorous menswear, womenswear and accessories.
